Flew some more today. Stalls are just a pitch buck at 60mph ias. With a descent rate of somewhere between 250-300fpm. Very anticlimactic
landings are getting better too. Flew the dragonfly for the first time since I started the annual at the end of July. I couldn’t be happier. Just flew around the airport for about an hour, but was able to manage sorting out the takeoff and landings out much much better than before. I also took a c172 for a flight a couple nights ago to refresh my flying skills.
Starting 2021 off the right way. The conditional was finally signed off!! Will be doing some grounds runs tomorrow, and some taxi testing. If all is well and the weather is good will hopefully start flying again in a week or two.
Had to get new heads for the dragonfly. It has a limbach l2000 which is basically a Volkswagen type 1 aeroconversion. The old heads were done so I purchased a new set with 40mm x 35mm valves. This in turn necessitated a conversion to auto plugs for the slick magneto which I purchased premade through g3i ignition. Right now the idle is high 1300-1400rpm, and it’s running slightly lean. I expected both of these issues. Just a little bit of tuning and it should be good to go. With the new heads the differential pressure test came out to 79/80 on cylinders 1 and 2, and 78/80 on cylinders 3 and 4. I couldn’t be happier with those results. Getting closer. Just need to bolt on the exhaust. Terminate spark plug wires and close it up It’s been a long time coming, but the heads are on and valves are adjusted. Just gotta find time to reattach everything else. Installed the magneto harness today. Didn’t take very long. I’ll terminate the ends when the heads are installed. Planning on doing that next week.
unfortunantly the plane is taking the back burner right now. We are moving due to my wife’s promotion. Just back to a house we already own, but it puts me further from the plane until I get a hangar at the airport I’m working at now, luckily I’m pretty high on the list and there is a hangar that may be available in a few months. |
